This is the first in the series and has stood for the design standard for all the others to follow. I wanted to have three shapes that move in different directions but are operated with one crank.

I like using hollow forms and the first shape is just that. It is made of welded 1/8" aluminum and the inner welded seam is covered with a velvet conical form.

The inner form not only moves back and forth when the crank is turned but is rocks indepently. The out form with the reeds features local grass reeds that grown in a ditch near where I live. It hard to find them. The form with the reeds moves in an out making up the third movement. The base is a steel plate covered with a quilt I made that also has to forms linking the base to the main parts of the sculpture.

The crank is a modified trailer winch.
