Commissioning me to do a sculpture for you is simple.
1) Contact me, tell me what you have in mind and tell me how much you want to spend.
2) I want 25% down to start with and will show you drawings and models.
3) After you approve, I build the sculpture.
4) You pay me when it is finished and you accept it.
The following is a long version of above, including a definition of terms, drawings of design formats, and pictures of past sculptures.
Here is a PDF File of what is below, if you want to download it and read it at your leisure.

Private commissions follow a personal procedure and differs from artist to artist. I like to work with a fixed budget established by the client. I can work with a client that is very specific about what they want or who just have a general idea. I never copy another artists work but will consider doing a design that has a mechanical aspect you like, but not a design.
I have included some schematic drawings and explanations of the different kinds of movements I use in my designs to help you understand terms like rotor and rocking. There are also two sections of past designs, organized by price range for you to get an idea of what I can do for you. I will not duplicate any design in these examples, but I expect to mix and match or “make something” like one of the designs. What I would make for you would be one of a kind and customized to fit your needs, space and setting requirements and taste in design.
After you have decided on a general idea of what you want me to do, you need to decide on how much you are want to spend. This is a general outline to be used as a guide, and in the case of kinetic sculptures, size does influence the price, but so does complexity and degree of finish.
My attorney tells me that any kind of written agreement is a binding contract if signed by both parties. An agreement can be changed at any time and as often as desired as long as both parties sign it. However, a contract is only as good as your willingness to defend it. Generally I work without out a formal contract, but will be formal about it if that makes you more comfortable.

You First: You need to make some general decisions first so we can work together on developing a kinetic sculpture just for you.
1) Examine my gallery and determine the kind of action and design you like best. Keep in mind you are expected to mix designs or suggest “something like” what is in the gallery.
2) Decide on a budget. The size, materials, originality and complexity all determine the price. Shipping is an estimate from Oregon to Florida, zone 8 for sure.
3) Size does matter. If the overall size is 6’ or under, then it would probably fall in the under $1000 category.
4) Material Preferences
5) Shipping: I am an expert at designing stuff be be shipped. This is what I did when I had a wholesale business. Any design I do will have parts to assemble, but that does not mean you have to build it. The size of parts are determined by shipping standards and what I can lift.

Working Together. After you have made some preliminary decisions we need to talk specifics and start the design process.
1) Talk to me, via email or phone if you are not my neighbor. I also have Skype with video.
2) Once we get an agreement on what you want, then I need 25% down on your price range.
3) Concept drawings, even models and maquettes, will follow until we get to what you want. There is a limit to the number of redraws, of course.
4) On approval of the concept I need another 10% of the total.
5) Final payment after approval. You must be satisfied. Pictures and videos will precede actual shipment.
6) Shipping costs extra.

The designs in this category are about 5' tall with a 24" foot print. They are related to my production days as Oak Run Studios and many templates are still around the shop so I an mix and match many of the shapes and concepts here.
These are free standing designs which means they can be located in many situations. See my Garden Design section on the home page for more on this.
An example of mixing and matching would be if you wanted the rotor style of the Heron rotor in combination with the one bladed propeller. I would then start drawing designs of this combination for you to select.
The designs below are larger, up to 12' high but average between 6 and 8' in the largest dimension.
Stands are part of the design in all my kinetic sculptures.
