Found at very edge of rock cliffs, very white plume in spring, isolated.
I am fascinated by these plants. I never notice them until spring when suddenly they appear on the very edge of cliffs or in the middle of a grassy field. All white flowers in a plume or flame like shape make them stand out as beacons. The leaves turn yellow in the fall, but do not dominate the landscape as they do in spring.
Mixed media, painted wood, basalt gravel, aluminum, 24" diameter, 36" high.

Fern and maple leaves. The large maple leaves of fall are yellow and, when wet, stick to what they fall on.

In the old growth forest I have been visiting there is a large section of old growth broad leaf maple. This sculpture is about the moss covering: the moss is a quilt. Moss covering on these trees is so thick and expansive you could pull it off and use it as a comforter. It is literally a quilt in the sculpture and fastened with leather tabs and wood buttons to emphasize the quilt aspect. The grooves of the bark were emphasized with actual lichen to set up a greater contrast between a literal quilt and the tree reference.
